Zurich Insurance filled its vacancy at the Global Life unit. A Brit with years of experience in insurance and banking is taking over in this key position.

Zurich Insurance Group appointed Gary Shaughnessy, 49, as head of the Global Life unit, the company said in a statement on Monday. Shaughnessy will take charge at the beginning of 2016, following in the footsteps of Kristof Terryn, who was named as chief executive of the General Insurance unit.

Shaughnessy has been acting chief executive of Zurich U.K. Life since June 2012. In 2014, he assumed the function of country head U.K. Currently he also leads ad interim Global Life in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Strong Talent Pipeline

Before joining Zurich, Shaughnessy was managing director at Fidelity Worldwide Investment, incharge of the Defined Contribution and Retail Business. He also spent almost a decade at Prudential.
