The construction of the new Universal Bank in Credit Suisse' home market promises to leave no stone unturned. The banking giant now put its most lucrative Swiss region into new hands.

Besnard, 52, has been with Switzerland's No. 2 bank for 15 years and finews.ch reported in November in the region around Lake Geneva. He will retain the responsibility for private banking even after taking charge of the overall business.

Competitive Edge

The new boss in Geneva is no stranger to competitiveness – something that will endear him to his boss and CEO Tidjane Thiam: he once was a professional football player at Servette FC.

Fehr was promoted to No. 2 of the new Swiss unit following Thomas Gottstein as finews.ch reported in November. The 49-year-old banker is now responsible for the unit Private & Wealth Management Clients. Fehr earned his nomination by making the Geneva region to Credit Suisse' most profitable in the domestic market.

The appointment of Besnard follows the announcement of a few days ago, when Reto Mueller was put in charge of the region of Eastern Switzerland.
