Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam has made a McKinsey adviser his new chief of staff, research by finews.ch showed. The new colleague is a familiar face.
Tidjane Thiam's latest recruitment is called Juerg Kaeppeli (pictured left); he is the new chief of staff of Credit Suisse' (CS) CEO. The role was left vacant ever since October 2015, when Thiam made his close confidant Pierre-Olivier Bouée chief operating officer. The appointment has been confirmed by a CS spokesman.
The chief of staff is supporting the CEO and executive board in the day-to-day management of the business. At McKinsey, Kaeppeli advised banks and insurers on developing their strategies and the risk management in Europe.
Projects at CS
In recent years, Kaeppeli concentrated on projects in corporate and investment banking as well as the reinsurance business. In the U.K. and the U.S., Kaeppeli advised a private bank on how to develop a digital platform.
The new chief of staff also worked on several projects with CS in the past years, research by finews.ch showed. He was for instance involved in the construction of the organization, which Thiam presented at the strategy day in October 2015.
Surrounded by Colleagues
Kaeppeli joined McKinsey in 2007. Before, he was a research fellow at the prestigious Max Planck Institute in Potsdam and the Humboldt University in Berlin.
CS has a habit of hiring McKinsey advisers. Former CEO Lukas Muehlemann, Thomas Wellauer and Ulrich Koerner, who today is in charge of asset management at UBS. Christoph Brunner, who recently left the company, also has a past at the adviser firm.
And at his new job, he will feel just like at home: Thiam and Bouée both are former McKinsey advisers.
