Noel Quinn has announced his retirement as group CEO of HSBC. The bank aims to complete a search for a successor by the second half of 2024.

After 37 years with HSBC, Noel Quinn has decided to step down as group chief executive to pursue a portfolio career while achieving a better balance between personal and business life. A search for a successor is underway, considering both internal and external candidates, and Quinn will continue as CEO during this process to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.

During a media call, group chair Mark Tucker said HSBC aims to complete the search in the second half of 2024 but provided no additional details.

«This is Noel’s decision,» Tucker commented on the timing of Quinn’s retirement. «I think his reasoning makes huge sense in terms of the end of a transformation period. I and the board fully support and respect that decision.»
