HSBC's Switzerland-based private bank said it has hired several senior bankers from rivals, in a bid to reinforce teams in Geneva, Zurich, Luxembourg and Dubai.

Cyrine Ben Chiboub 260The Geneva-based private bank said it hired Achilles Fokiades from Credit Suisse as a senior relationship manager for its Greek desk and Cyrine Ben Chiboub (pictured at left) from J.P. Morgan as senior relationship manager for its Atlantic institutional team, both in Geneva.

The bank also poached Andrew Larsson from UBS as a senior relationship manager for its U.K. desk, based in Zurich.

The bank has bucked the hiring cycle before, adding several high-profile private bankers poached from rivals in a recruiting drive last year.

Peter Markmann 160In Luxembourg, which is part of the Swiss entity, the private bank has hired Peter Markmann (pictured at left) from Carnegie Investment Bank for its Scandinavian desk, John Paul Keane from Lombard International Assurance for its multi-family office team and Fabio Martinuzzi from Luxembourg-based family office Belair House for its Europe international team.

All six bankers were hired as senior relationship managers.

Middle East Ramp-Up

The bank's Geneva-based Middle Eastern team has hired Bachir Barakat, an ex-Coutts banker, as a senior relationship manager, promoted Saudi Arabia head Carla Abou-Rjeily to deputy market head of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Chief Administrative Officer Nikhil Chawla to MENA head.

In Dubai, the Swiss bank hired Giridhar Bhatia from BNP Paribas as well as Catherine Falk, until now a commercial banker in Paris, as relationship managers for the United Arab Emirates.

The bank is also boosting its investment management team in Geneva with the hire of Guillaume Deloche de Noyelle of Societe Generale as an investment manager and Michael Leroux as a product specialist trader from HSBC’s U.K. business.
