A prominent European economist who left UBS this spring joined the board of Unigestion, a $22 billion Swiss asset manager.

Geneva-based Unigestion's shareholders elected Beatrice Weder di Mauro to its board, it said in a statement. She is a top European monetary policy expert who has overseen think tank CEPR for the last three years and left UBS' board this year, as finews.com reported.

«Not only does she have an impressive academic and advisory background, but her experience on the boards of various other companies gives her significant business and governance expertise,» Unigestion Chairman and majority shareholder Bernard Sabrier said.

Weder di Mauro spent ten years overseeing UBS, sitting on the Swiss wealth manager's audit as well as its corporate culture and responsibility committees. The Genevan asset manager has also enlisted another UBS veteran: Alain Robert, a long-standing private banker.
