A former Credit Suisse veteran is joining Deutsche Bank to run its business in Spain and Portugal, and lead its Spanish wealth arm.

Deutsche Bank is hiring Inigo Martos to fill several roles across Spain and Portugal. Martos' new positions with the German lender include chief executive officer for the Iberia region, effective July 1, head of the international private bank in Spain, effective January 1, as well as general manager of the bank's Madrid branch, it says in a statement.

As chief executive, Martos replaces Antonio Rodriguez-Pina, who will focus on his role as chair of Deutsche Bank's Spanish entity from July onward. In his role as private banking head of Spain, Martos steps into Fernando Sousa's role, who will retire at the end of January, the statement says.

Martos joins Deutsche Bank from Credit Suisse, where he headed the Swiss bank's international wealth management business in Spain and Portugal.

Speculation on New Assignment

“(Martos) possesses all the skills and attributes needed to run our business as we strive to become the leading financial institution for entrepreneurs and their families,” Claudio de Sanctis, global head of the international private bank and chief executive of Europe, Middle East and Africa, says in the statement.

Previously, Spanish media reported that Martos would be joining a small private bank in Spain following his departure from Credit Suisse.
