The ambitious project to build a cable car over Zurich's lake for a local Swiss bank's anniversary is a no go.

Zurich's Cantonal Bank has decided not to go ahead with the «Züribahn», a cable car project originally slated to link the city's eastern lakefront with the west, according to an announcement released yesterday by the institute.

The decision follows a negative court ruling in January.

«We deeply regret we cannot build the Züribahn. We accept the judgement and are not appealing it to the federal courts», said bank head Martin Scholl.

Project Delays

Project planning started in 2017 for the attraction, which was meant to commemorate the bank's 150th jubilee. The plans faced numerous objections and in 2019 the bank appealed an initial court ruling against it. At that point, however it was clear that the project would be delayed beyond the original 2020 start date.
