Private bank Julius Baer is strengthening its local desks for clients from the Iberian Peninsula and the Middle East. Once again, the additions look back on careers at Credit Suisse, finews.com has learned.

Ramon MarcoEnric Mateu, and Fernando Pedraza join Julius Baer as senior relationship managers from Credit Suisse, according to a memo from the Zurich-based private bank on Thursday, obtained by finews.com.

The three private bankers who started at the beginning of September will help the «Bears» expand its presence on the Iberian Peninsula.

On-Site in Madrid

The Spain specialists previously worked for Credit Suisse. Marco headed the offshore business with clients from the region in the former wealth management unit since 2016, spending 22 years there. Mateu was a senior client advisor on the same team since 2016.

Pedraza worked as a client advisor for Credit Suisse's Iberia desk in Zurich and also worked locally in Madrid for three years. They report to a team head in Zurich which in turn reports to Carlos Recoder.

From Geneva-based Asset Manager

Former Credit Suisse employees joined the Middle East & Africa desk at Zurich headquarters over the summer, according to a separate memo. They're deputy team leader Roberto Faoro and senior client advisors Moetaz Eid and Muhammad Salahuddin.

Faoro has over 35 years of experience, according to the letter, and moved from Credit Suisse to Geneva-based asset manager Crescendo Capital in 2021, which was also home to Eid, who previously worked for ten years at Credit Suisse. Salahuddin moved directly from Credit Suisse in Zurich to Julius Baer.

Popular Address

With the arrival of the three new faces, the private bank expands its offshore offering for the region. Baer has advisory offices in Dubai, Manama, and Doha, as well as desks in Geneva and London. Faoro, Eid, and Salahuddin report to Philipp Kleinschnittger, who is responsible for the Middle East and Africa business out of Zurich.

The appointments show Julius Baer, along with Zurich-based private bank EFG International, is one of the most popular addresses for Credit Suisse private bankers looking to make a move. Recently, specialists for the Italian and Ticino markets made as well, as reported by finews.com.
