Julius Baer International continues its expansion in the UK by hiring from UBS to establish an office in Newcastle. For its part, UBS GWM hires a former Rugby player from Barclays.

Julius Baer International (JBI) tapped three experienced UBS wealth managers with over 85 years of experience for its new office in Newcastle as it makes a push into the North East region of the UK, according to a statement Thursday. The new hires join the North East team of Simon Patterson and Chris Shearsmith

The moves follow UBS's naming of two advisors on Tuesday at its Newcastle office.

Trio of UBS Veterans

Aidan Dunstan joins as a relationship manager, bringing over 33 years of wealth management experience, starting work on September 25. While at UBS, he worked with high-net-worth clients, and in his role at JBI, he will work with business owners, entrepreneurs, and families in the region.

Also bringing over 33 years of experience in private banking in Newcastle is Alison Lander. She worked with high-net-worth clients at UBS and took on her JBI position on October 2.

Starting the same day as Lander as an assistant relationship manager, Stacey Kirby brings more than two decades of wealth management and private banking experience to JBI. At UBS, she supported high-new-worth families in the UK's North East.

Former Rugby Pro Joins UBS GWM

UBS Global Wealth Management has already found replacements. According to a statement from UBS on Tuesday, it is strengthening its Newcastle office with Allister Hogg as a new advisor for entrepreneurs and business owners and Marcus Stewart as office manager.

Hogg joins from Barclays, where he spent five years in wealth management. Before that, he was a professional rugby player for 16 years, playing for clubs in Edinburgh and Newcastle and the Scottish national team.

Stewart has been with UBS for 14 years and is moving from London to Newcastle as the new regional head for northeast England.

Commitment to the UK

Julius Baer International CEO David Durlacher said that although the firm had a presence in the North East for more than five years, «the opening of our new office is a clear signal of our commitment to the region and the UK.»

Including the Newcastle location, JBI, part of the Julius Baer Group, has offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, and Manchester. At the end of last year, client assets were £19.2 billion ($23.4 billion).
