The commercial property and casualty insurance company opens an office in Zurich and appoints a head who previously worked at an American competitor.

W. R. Berkley, one of the largest property and casualty insurers in the US, is opening an office in Zurich, its first in Switzerland. It will headed by Felix Boeni, who joined the company from American competitor Liberty Mutual this past July.

As the General Manager for Switzerland, it is his job to lead the office in Zurich and build a domestic business.

Executive Insurance

The Swiss office will also be the hub for the insurer's European business. The strategy is to position the company as a specialist working through brokers. At the start, the company intends to distribute liability insurance for companies and executive management that meet the needs of small and medium-sized companies in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

W. R. Berkley was founded in 1967 as a small investment management firm and it has since grown to become one of the largest commercial line property and casualty insurers in the US with annual gross written premiums of more than $10 billion. It is a Fortune 500 company and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
