Jean-Pierre Roth, the former president of the Swiss central bank, has decided to give up his job as chairman of Banque Cantonale de Genève. The government of the canton, the biggest shareholder of the bank, has already elected a successor.

Jean-Pierre Roth has been chairman of Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE) since July 2010. He will retire at the upcoming annual general meeting of the state-owned bank on April 25, 2017, the company said in a statement.

Roth was the president of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), Switzerland’s monetary authority, from 2001 through 2009. He was in charge of the SNB when UBS, the country’s biggest bank, had to be rescued with the help of the Swiss state in the autumn of 2008.

Management Professor to Take Over

The government of the state of Geneva elected Gilbert Probst (pictured below) to be successor of Roth. Probst is a professor at the PPP Research Center and co-director of the MBA program at the Geneva School of Economics and Management (GSEM).
