While Zurich might not be competing against Hong Kong’s famous skyline, high-rise districts are being planned.

Zurich’s «Prime Tower» is currently the city's tallest building rising to the not very dizzying heights of 126 meters.

But that could double in the future, according to an unpublished report made available to «Tages-Anzeiger».

Curse of the skyscraper

In 1999, Andrew Lawrence published research on the construction of skyscrapers and how they are harbingers of economic downturns.

The plans, according to the report, say that not only should investors benefit from new high-rise buildings, but that the general public must as well.

To this end, the winning proposals will allow for low-cost apartments, public access to ground floors and undeveloped land surrounding required to serve as public space.

Perhaps city planners will be reading the book «The Skyscraper Curse».
