Eigentlich ist die Geschichte zu skurril, um wahr zu sein. Letzte Woche wurde das Pärchen Bonnie Jean Hoxie (Bild), die ehemalige Assistentin des Kommunikations-Chefs bei Disney, und ihr Freund Yonni Sebbag wegen Verschwörung und Betrug verhaftet. Anbei eine Rekapitulation der Abenteuer eines der schusseligsten Betrüger-Pärchen:
Erst wandten sich die beiden mit folgendem E-Mail an 33 Hedge-Fund-Manager:
«Hi, I have access to Disney (DIS) quarterly earnings report before its release on 5/03/10. I am willing to share this information for a fee that we can determine later....My email is XXX. I count on your discretion as you count on mine.»
Wenig erstaunlich, dass sich einige Manager an die US-Börsenaufsicht SEC wandten, die wiederum das FBI einschaltete. Dieses nahm dann getarnt als Investmentbanker Kontakt mit den Betrügern auf. Anbei einige E-Mails von Sebbag an den Undercover-Agenten (mit Original-Orthographie):
«First of all, i am not a fed, I have no way to prove it at this point but i am not asking you to disclose your identity not i will disclose mine. It is up to you to determine if this is worth the risk as i did. I work for Disney, that is all i can tell you' (He didn't work for Disney, but his girlfriend did).»
«I can deliver 3 to 4 days before release. I will email you the report as soon as i have it and you will wire transfer the money to my account after you get ahold of it. I am asking you to make me an offer based on the capital gains from the trade and the risk i am taking delivering this information to you? Also, i am looking to build a strong business relationship with you for future quarters and information.»
«I dont think we will get caught if we stay discrete and careful. You can count on my discretion as i am counting on yours...»
Am 14. Mai fand dann ein Treffen mit dem FBI-Agenten statt, bei dem der 29-jährige Sebbag den Geschäftsbericht für lediglich 15'000 Dollar verkauft haben soll. Der Rest ist Geschichte. Das Pärchen wurde festgenommen. In den USA droht bei solchen Vergehen eine Haftstrafe von bis zu 20 Jahren.
Aus den Plänen und Träumen der 33-jährigen Bonnie Jean Hoxie, die den Quartalsbericht bei Disney entwendet hatte, wird definitiv nichts. Auf ihrem Facebook-Account hatte sie noch kürzlich geschrieben: «I'm going shopping, shopping, shopping!». Sie hat den Eintrag ersatzlos gestrichen.
