GAM Appoints New Group CEO

Swiss-based global asset manager GAM has announced senior leadership changes as the Group enters its next phase of sustainable growth.

Albert Saporta has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (Group CEO), effective 1 July 2025, succeeding Elmar Zumbuehl. Zumbuehl will remain with GAM until 31 December 2025 to support the leadership transition. Additionally, Tim Rainsford will return to GAM as Group Chief Distribution Officer on 1 October 2025, to lead the firm’s global distribution efforts.

These leadership changes reflect GAM’s successful transformation and its strong positioning for future growth, the firm noted in a media release on Wednesday.

Comprehensive Repositioning

Under Zumbuehl’s leadership, GAM has undergone a comprehensive repositioning over the past 21 months. The firm has divested non-core businesses and rebuilt a lean, scalable platform aimed at attracting top investment talent and connecting them more effectively with clients worldwide through an enhanced global distribution and client servicing network.

Saporta brings over 40 years of experience in the investment management industry. He has served as GAM’s Global Head of Investments & Products since October 2023. Prior to joining GAM, he held senior roles at Merrill Lynch, UBS, St. James’s Place, AIG, and ABN AMRO.

Return to GAM

He holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University (1984), an MBA (1983), and a BSc in Economics (1982) from New York University, as well as a Math/Physics degree from the University of Nice (1980).

Tim Rainsford will return to GAM as Group Chief Distribution Officer and a member of the Group Management Board. He brings extensive experience in leading global distribution teams with a focus on growth and client outcomes. Rainsford previously served as CEO of Generali Investments Partners and, more recently, as Chief Product and Distribution Officer for Generali Asset Management.

Driving Growth

Rossen Djounov, Global Head of Client Solutions, will continue as a senior member of the distribution leadership team, reporting to Rainsford. He will focus on driving growth initiatives and deepening strategic client relationships.
